This is a wonderful story, told in rhyme, by Elizabeth Cole. It’s about a boy named Nick who who falls the first time he tries his new skates. Dad and Mom share their own experiences and how they didn’t give up trying new endeavors. Eventually, Nick finds success after following his parents’s advice with gaining confidence along the way. He realizes that persevering had made him a stronger person. Ms. Cole’s book is a must have in any teacher’s classroom library and used to create thoughtful discussions about never giving up. This is a great book with a positive message about perseverance. I really enjoyed that the author used more than one example of what perseverance looks like and that not everyone will be an absolute expert right away, or even after a year.
