In the mid 1970s, National Steel Car (NSC) designed and developed a welded open top hopper specifically for ballast service, complete with four bottom chutes to spread the rocks along the rails. You'll flip over the added countertop!
Good product, seems well made. Installation was simple enough. It gives us a little extra counter space when needed. The only issue is it blocks the entry a little when flipped up in our RV. Just look before you step in.

Works great for our RV.
Perfect for a side table for my wife's coffee pot in our RV. She puts the coffee pot in the cabinet when we leave from camping and put the shelf down. Exactly what we needed.
